LYMAN HIGH SCHOOL
Classes of 1975 & 1976

The combined classes of 1975 and 1976 would like to welcome you to our joint website. We have combined our efforts together so that we may bring our alumni the best possible reunion events over the years to come. We started with the 30 year reunion that was held in September of 2006. If you missed it don't worry, there are plenty of pictures in the gallery and a ton more in the Memory Book. There are some cool projects we are working on now, so enjoy your visit to our little nostalgic spot on the web and come back often. There is no telling what reunion opportunities you may find waiting here.

Lyman is being transformed before our very eyes. New buildings are rising while older buildings are being stripped to the bare brick and foundation, some being completely renovated. The round building that marked the center of campus in the '70's is now just a memory.

Lyman High School 101

The History of Lyman High
Howard Charles Lyman, and his wife, Emma Abbott Lyman, who are pictured to the left, first arrived in the area in the early 1900s. They couple became actively involved in the political and social aspects of the community. When Seminole County separated from Orange County the Lymans and other Altamonte residents voted to incorporate the Town of Altamonte Springs on November 11, 1920.

In the years 1922-1923, with the increasing population of Special Tax District No. 3, it became apparent that better school facilities were going to be necessary, as the small two-teacher buildings at Altamonte and Longwood were no longer adequate.

The local board of trustees, Mr. Ben Overstreet and Mr. Howard Lyman, called several mass meetings to discuss bonding the district for new school buildings. Mr. Overstreet suggested the idea of consolidation rather than three school buildings to be located at Longwood, Altamonte, and Lake Mary. This plan was studied by the trustees and placed before the taxpayers. The Lake Mary patrons, on account of their location, decided to have their own local building and were given their pro rata share of the bonded amount. Altamonte and Longwood decided to consolidate into one school.

But wait…there's more…...

That 70's Reunion Book.
The 30 Year Class Reunion for both classes is covered here in full living color. Well over a hundred pictures of all the reunion events and a lot more. This is by far the best publication ever printed dedicated to the classes of '75 & '76!

Lyman Class of 1975.
The year is 1995, the place is the Sheraton Hotel in Maitland and if you weren't there you need this book! If you were there then you should want this book, because you're in it! Paul Simon said that everything looks worse in black and white, well, we disagree.
